Research Interests: My lab is interested in the role of the kidney in the development and maintenance of hypertension. We are focused on the role of heme oxygenase in the kidney in the regulation of blood pressure and renal function. Our research has demonstrated that specific induction of HO-1 in the kidney lowers blood pressure in Angiotensin II-dependent hypertension in part through a reduction in superoxide production. We have also demonstrated that selective nephron specific overexpression of HO-1 in transgenic mice is also able to reduce blood pressure in Angiotensin II-dependent hypertension.

Research Methods: Chronic blood pressure measurements in mice with indwelling catheters and telemetry, intrarenal medullary interstitial infusions in mice, transgenic and tissue-specific knockout mice, cell culture, siRNA knockdown in vitro and in vivo, immunohistochemistry.
