Areas of Expertise

General: Mechanotransduction

Specific: Molecular mechanism of mechanotransduction in sensory neurons and vascular smooth muscle

Role of DEG/ENaC family members in sensory transduction

Hormonal regulation of DEG/ENaC expression

Techniques

molecular biology, confocal microscopy, cell culture and live cell imaging

Summary of Research

The goal of my lab is to

1) identify proteins that form mechanosensitive ion channels in sensory neurons and vascular smooth muscle

2) understand how mechanosensitive channels transduce force

3) how these channels are affected by disease states such as hypertension
