Areas of expertise

General: End-organ complications of diabetes.
Specific: Sex hormones in the pathophysiology of diabetic nephropathy Gender differences in chronic renal disease Renin-angiotensin system and diabetic organ complications

Research Methods Our laboratory uses the streptozotocin-induced diabetes rat as the experimental model. We use morphological tools (histology and electron microscopy) and immunohistochemistry to analyze renal pathology and localize expression of proteins in tissues. Western blotting and a variety of biochemical assays to analyze the expression and activity of proteins and sex steroids in the tissue and circulation.

Research Methods:

Chronic measurements of arterial pressure and renal hemodynamics in rats.

Molecular and biochemical assays of oxidative stress and inflammation(i.e. RTPCR, Western Blot, ELISA)

Histology (general and immunohistochemistry)
